On one of the hottest days of the year, situated on the stunning lawn of Kinloch Lodge, I felt honoured to be shooting the intimate wedding of Sam & Alex. Nestled between the mountains and the shores of Loch na DalI, Kinloch Lodge was the perfect location for this special wedding.
Just across the water, on the mainland, I joined Sam at her home, where she was preparing for the big day ahead with her closest family and friends. Having already filled with tears several times that morning, Sam was trying her best to hold it in, now that she had her hair and make up beautifully completed by Heather, from Bee Bonnie Beauty. Earlier that morning, husband-to-be, Alex had given her a beautifully handcrafted necklace which he had designed and made just for Sam. Dressed in her embellished Phase Eight gown, Sam completed the look with a long flowing veil and dazzling Jenny Packham shoes.
Over at the lodge, Alex greeted their guests and took shade from the blistering sun beneath the huge trees while they waiting for the bride to arrive.
Led behind local piper, Ewan, Sam's two eldest sons walked her down the length of the lawn to the small congregation. Alex turned around just as Sam approached and I think it was his turn to try to hold it all in.
Their beautiful ceremony was held by Humanist Celebrant, Francesca and incorporated a poem, written and read by Sam's daughter, Amy. The couple also included the Scottish tradition of drinking from a quaich. This tradition symbolises the love and trust of the couple as they share their first drink as a married couple. Although thirsty from standing in the full sun, Sam almost gulped down the whole lot.
The wedding party then enjoyed drinks and canapés, followed by a beautiful meal prepared by the chef, Jordan Webb. They partied into the wee hours of the night in the private lounge of the South Lodge, which also accommodated beautiful bedrooms with views of the loch.
